HDV and Graphic Card Overlay Resolutions?
 

I currently have PPRO 2.0 and am considering Cineform as the intermediate. I would like to use a NVIDIA FX5200 as my graphics card using the VGA to my PC monitor and DVI to an external LCD for monitoring my footage. First, is this card suitable for this task? Secondly, when editing HDV footage, what resolution choices do I have to send out of the DVI using NVIDIA? Is there a preset for 1440x1080 or do I have to select something that is close to that resolution? My LCD panel will probably be 720p or 1080p.

When you go into display setup, what you would normally see will be the resolution options that a) the display is capable of, and b) the graphics card can handle.

So if you attached a typical 19" LCD you would often see 1280x1024 as the upper limit. If you attached a genuine 1280x720 monitor you would see that. If you attached a 1920x1080 monitor....I'm not sure. I kinda doubt an FX5200 supports that.

[To confuse things, one can attach a LCD HDTV that is "720 capable" and "1080 capable" even though its actual pixel dimensions might be something like 1440x900. If you feed it through the component output, rather than DVi, and set the card to output "1080i" then the display setup will tell you that monitor is 1920x1080 even though it really isn't.]
