HD bars or NTSC bars for HD color work on a SD CRT

So currently, I edit my HD footage using a Apple 23"/HDlink combo along with a Sony Broadcast CRT monitor in SD. I use the Decklink HD Extreme to output to both of them at the same time.

My question is I use my CRT of color work and the LCD for viewing. Since I'm editing HD material, should I have my CRT calibrated to HD bars or should I have it calibrated to NTSC bars?

Thanks for any advice.

You cannot display HD color on an SD monitor. You need an HD monitor if you are planning on color correcting HD footage. YOu can try to find a Sony PVM-14L5 on ebay or something...that is an HD display that used to go for $1500. Other than that, you are looking at HD LCDs and they start at about $4,000.

Or you can get the Matrox MXO and use that in combination with the Apple 23" monitor and use that to color correct. The MXO works better than the HD Link because the new software allows you to adjust the image to properly balance your monitor to bars. Brightness, Contrast, Hue, Saturation..AND...a blue only option for better control. You cannot get that with the Decklink combo.
