I'd show mine, but it is embarrassingly cluttered and cramped. :-)

Emily Howlett September 23rd, 2008 07:13 PM

Yeah Louis, dont give up! It was a great thread! I am sure Pete would have publish his work space, except I wont let him because our "office" is just a nice way of decribing a room with the spare bed, extra furniture, craft supplies and endless crap. Its WAY too messy for public viewing!

I like seeing other peoples, makes me want to clean up... kinda!

just throw a picture up on a website, blog, photo sharing site, etc, and post a link. I went with mobile me, but you can use any site that allows you to put a picture up... There is also the option of adding a photo directly to your post like Matt did.

Although I'm not doing weddings and do very few events any more, thought I'd share my space. This is pre cable management, looks a lot neater now.

I like it.. very organized.. What kind of studio monitors do you have for your audio?

Mick Haensler September 28th, 2008 09:42 PM

Thanks for the feedback Matthew and Louise. After years in a sterile edit suite, I wanted to design I workspace I wanted to be in. I had a cabinet maker friend who is also a wedding DJ build and install the work areas. To save on cost I designed the units as built ins, even though everything has the appearance of standalone furniture. Everything is basically work surfaces tied to the wall. The cabinets are built to 19" standard studio size with rack rails for mounting gear. It's kind of like a kitchen design. The surfaces are a black swirl Formica(hides messes and cleans easily) with solid cherry bullnose trim and 1/2" cherry plywood sides. The cabinets are 1/2" cherry plywood with solid cherry fronts. Total cost was a very reasonable $1700.

This space is also a 16 track recording studio, thus the plethora of audio gear and instruments. Everything is linked to a Octocore Mac Pro. The Audio Workstation is a Tascam SX-1 which will take black burst sync from the Mac Pro for doing soundtrack work although I haven't used this feature.

I am truly blessed to have a work environment like this. Every morning when I step from the kitchen to the studio I can't believe how fortunate I am to have this space.

Hi Louis,

I work entirely on laptops, so my office is anywhere. I just can't sit at a desk all week. With my wife at home all day with the kids I need to get out of the house if I want to concentrate. At home I stand quite often with an elevated desk, sit with feet up, lay on my back, lay on my stomach, even used the treadmill with an elevated waist-high shelf that allows me to walk at 3 mph and edit. I use all portable bus-powered drives to stay mobile. This picture is a little dated in that I switched to FW800 and eSATA rather than FW400 when I started editing HD.

I'm very much looking forward to quad-core MacBook Pros. I'll be first in line. I have a base camp in my office with two intel iMacs that I use for capturing and encoding, but my laptop is my real workhorse.
