JVC has screwed me
So i bought the gy-hm200 when it first came out with the purpose of streaming to facebook among other things, now facebook has changed it streaming protocol from rtmp to rtmps leaving me unable to stream to facebook ,then they bring out the hm250 with a new firmware for fb, my question is why is there no support for your users who purchased the hm200 , you can smply put out a firmware update that fixes our problems

I wish I could talk you out of FaceBook.

Re: JVC has screwed me
Not the same, but I bought a Panasonic product that had a similar issue. I tried to do what the manual said it would do and when I couldn't, I contacted Panasonic who initially sent me the relevant clause in the manual saying they were not responsible if a system changed that was out off their control. I wasn't put off, and argued my case - the main selling feature was something that is now unsupported, after just a short period. They sent me the latest version, that did do it, and didn't;t even want the old one back. This was a much cheaper item of course - a recorder for off air programmes costing a few hundred pounds. What really annoyed me was them using the get-out clause in the first response, hence why I didn't give up.

Re: JVC has screwed me
We feel your frustration, I'd buy a separate device to do the streaming. You could sell your camera for the newer model but the same scenario could likely repeat in a few years...

Chris, I've never used FaceBook Live so can't comment in that way but I do have my reservations about FaceBook that are unrelated to their streaming capability. I'm curious however, about what makes you say that. Thanks. |

Let's just say that my reservations about FaceBook, like yours, are unrelated to their streaming capability. |

Tragically it's where the masses are.

Re: JVC has screwed me
I figured that was the reason.
We're at the point where it's no longer enough to simply eschew FaceBook. It's time to be pro-active and push alternatives. Vimeo, preferably. Heck, even YouTube, I will go so far as to actually recommend YouTube if it meant getting someone off of FaceBook. Of course you have to follow the business where it leads, but man, I'd be pushing alternatives in the most diplomatic way possible. In other words, just short of kicking and screaming. |

Re: JVC has screwed me
My Matrox Monarch HDX hardware encoder unit can output to two separate network locations at once. This means I can stream to both Facebook and YouTube at the same time!
Okay, I'll be quiet now. :-) Andrew |
Re: JVC has screwed me
This must be strange but I have never streamed to Facebook or YouTube .. we stream every week but always to a paid CDN service and yes with the free software that comes with the service I can stream to multiple sites including Facebook but I never have ! I figured that Facebook streaming was for people with iPhones who run around shooting wobbly footage with wind blown audio .. Am I wrong??

Re: JVC has screwed me
Yes. You can use professional encoders with Facebook.
Details are in the streaming section. :-) Andrew |
