This review demonstrates how well the HD7 does when reviewed by someone who actually understands shooting, compared to the kids at a certain site that have near zero -- or no -- experience actually shooting video. Because they have no personal experience shooting with pro cameras, they review every camcorder, no matter how good its manual controls, as though it were a "point-and-shoot" camera. This kind of review doesn't tell folks as much about a camera as it does about the limits of the reviewer's skills. It's like reading a review of a 911 Turbo done by your mother.

This kind of reviewer -- and review -- should be limited to basic "point-and-shoot" camcorders. Or, they should be upfront that they review cameras from the point of view of unskilled photograpers. (Because that's what they are.) These reviews may be fine for the majority of their mom-and-pop audience. But, fail to be useful for folks who are skilled and expect to use manual controls during shooting and color correction in post. This is the audience the HD7 is aimed at. It should compared not to a cheaper Canon but a far more expensive Sony FX7.

In your opinion, how does the performance of the HD7 compare to the Sony FX7?

The V1/FX7 uses CMOS chips plus a unique interplolation system that produces a very different look: Wide lattitude, very natural color, but slightly "soft" looking when shooting wide -- e.g., a wide shot of trees.

The HD7 is a much much closer match to the FX1/Z1 and HD100/HD110 because these all use CCDs.

You mention "soft" look. What do you mean? Not clear? Not distinct? Missing details? Less sharpness?

I have the IMSAT software, but the charts cost about $2000!

I understand why he did AUTO, but then he should say the CAMERA yields a blue cast, heshould make it clear the AUTO SETTING does this. He should have used MANUAL on the light he used for his charts.

And, his comment on INTERLACE is way stupid. He must have viewed on his computer. That's not how interlaced is watched. Sounds like he didn't own an HDTV! So what's he doing reviewing camcorders?

We got kids with no video experience and an engineer with no HD experience. The internet lets anyone be a reviewer.
