Any updates on JVC Everio HD?

Greetings

Any updates on this puppy or any back-room/conference conversations with the JVC folks?
http://www.akihabaranews.com/en/news...Everio+HD.html

I've done a net search and found one post that mentions 1080i and another that suspects 720P support. I would characterize both of those posts as rumor based.

I'm particularly interested to hear if this camera will support 720P 60. That's the mode I'm interested in.

Thanks much

I just read in VideoMaker that it will record 1080P directly to the hardrive. When played back it dislays 1080i. There is a possible chance that if you can move the files from the Harddrive directly to editing it will maintain the 1080P.

JVC has unveiled the camera today (2007 Jan 07) at CES.

The article implies that the camera captures a full 1920x1080 image to hard drive. Doesn't mention microphone port or HDMI though.

3 x 1/5" CCDs with effective pixel count of approximately 530K (976 x 548)

The official JVC press release

http://www.jvc.com/press/index.jsp?item=544&pageID

"With a 60GB built-in hard drive the JVC HD Everio provides up to five hours of full HD 1920 x 1080i recording. To ensure the best possible image quality, it features three CCDs and a Fujinon lens."

...5 hours on 60GB? So, this means Mpeg-2, no?

"The HD Everio offers consumers the simplicity of a point-and-shoot camcorder combined with the features, technology and manual controls that appeal to the serious videographer."

...manual controls that appeal to the serious videographer? I wonder what this means. Mic jack? Headphones jack? Independent apperure, iris, gain control? Zebras? Colour Bars? Focus assist? Colour and saturation control? Hmmm. I wish! But this is not what we got on the previous versions of the Everio series...

"The HD Everio is equipped with three digital interfaces – USB, HDMI and iLink."

...HDMI? 1920x1080 native uncompressed? Cool!!!

With a gross pixel count of 570K and the advanced noise reduction technology JVC claims, maybe we can expect excellent low light performance? I wonder what would be the resolution cost though...

I'll be watching closely with fingers crossed...

5 hours out of a 60 GB drive is a slightly lower bitrate than HDV uses if I'm not mistaken and yes, it'll be MPEG-2. Probably can't choose a higher bitrate. You'd think the low light performance would be good but we'll have to wait and see.

It has a function ring and an accessory shoe from the looks of the pictures available.

There is no mention of what the gross pixel count is. I don't know where people are pulling that out from. Confusing the SD Everio specs I believe. It has a HDV compatible mode 1440x1080i (being that it does not record to tape it can't be called HDV, but that is what it is) at 5hrs, and two new modes that are not HDV. One would have to wonder how these will be edited?
This isn't the successor to the HD-10 many where hoping for, and one has to wonder, if JVC will ever re-enter the sub $3500 progressive HD cam market they created with the first HDV cam, which seems so long ago now.

Beings that I have been a doubting Thomas on the issue of lower end HDV cameras - This camera is the first one that seems to provide everything I would want in a small unit for Video Journalism content I am beginning to create. I'm tired of dealing with capturing and logging footage from tape - if this can get me more productive in a quicker time frame, I'm all for it. Is this a file based work flow along the same lines as using the HVX200 with P2 cards??? Having the Broadcast Quality Fuji lens is a definite advantage. I have heard their is some type of so called proprietary file format that is called ".mod"? Doing a little searching, renaming the files to ".mpg" resolves any issues - anyone confirm this?

The 60GB laptop drive is gravy in my opinion if I understand the technology correctly - if needed, could one replace the drive with a larger capacity laptop drive? (I'm assuming these cameras used OTS laptop HD's - Imagine swapping out for a 160GB drive!)

I'm still new to this so if I'm making false assumptions, please chime in - now I only need to convince one of the 3 top u/w housing companies to foot the bill to develop and produce a housing for the camera..

Nothing new has been available regarding this camera- info wise. We're all waiting for final specs as is everyone interested in this camera. Release date is April 2007- so we'll have to be patient or get lucky and hope the release gets pushed up or info becomes available prior~~~~~
