BR-HD 50 playing 1080i tapes?
I'm trying to edit some tapes that were shot on a Sony Handycam HDR-HC9. I believe the camera shots HDV 1080i. When I try to capture from my BR-HD50 deck to FCP I can see the time code but no picture. I also don't see a picture on the monitor coming directly from the deck.
Any idea why? I thought the BR-HD50 could play 1080i?? Thanks and Happy NEw Year, Carlos |
The BRHD50 literature didn't say it plays 1080i. It says it can cross-convert 720 TO output 1080i.

Multi-format output/Cross-converter function A sophisticated cross-converter function enables output not only of 720p signals, but also 1080i, 480/576p and 480/576i signals. I took it as it could play (or output) 1080i, not that it cross converts 720 to 1080. |
The real issue is licensing of HDV1(720p) vs HDV2 (1080i). The BR-HD50 is a HDV1 deck.

Yes it is sad that there are two HDV formats which are incompatible for a simple tape deck or camera to be able to play both formats.
What I simply don't understand, is that there seems to be no manufacturer interested to create a simple tape-deck which can play both formats. Very strange after so many years... So I switched to Hard-disk recording instead. No tapes, and I don't miss it. |
