Hey, I got a pic of the JVC GY-HD100!
Hey, I got a pic of the JVC GY-HD100....it's not blurred like the one posted everywhere.
Email me and I'll send it to you...I'm having trouble posting on my web server. chris.murphy@willowstudios.com UPDATE: Go here: http://www.hdvinfo.net/articles/jvcp...d100teaser.php Murph |

According to the article:
"the GY-HD100U can output an uncompressed 720/P60 HD signal" Yikes! Can this be right? Now, if someone comes out with a firestore-like device that accepts analog component inputs at 720/P60, and records to an nice, fat, edit-ready codec... What would be the bandwidth requirements for this? About the same as 1080i/30? |
Man , that's one beautiful formfactor ! W/o speculating on the specs because we're just @#$%$ in the wind , I'm wondering what is that black circular object on top ? Could it be an antennae ? Sorry for the " typical dumb question mode " but I've never seen one of those . thanks Kurth

"black circular object on top"
Look like a direct uplink to satelite.(-: |
To me, it looks like a speaker/headphone... situated just about where your ear would be if you were looking through the viewfinder.

Thanks Murph -- I've updated our HD100 page at http://www.hdvinfo.net/articles/jvcp...d100teaser.php with this photo -- will update the article content tonight. Much appreciated,

That little round thing looks like a hinge, or a Vulcan Universal translator so you can record you audio in any language.
|
Heh. From its position, it's probably an earphone.
|
Very interesting ... the WEVA website appears to have removed the picture and the story.
|
Chris, thanks for putting up that photo.
I'm not very familiar with JVC cameras. Anybody have any info or educated guesses as to what kind of lens-mount this cam might sport? Advisability/possibility of adapting XL-series lenses to this cam? Are there any likely adapters kicking around the 1/3" realm which might facilitate promiscuous lens-swappage? |
I just gotta ask! Does that circle on the aft part of the handle (just above the J in JVC) look like an earphone? Look at the the distance the circle is below the eyepeice and then trace your finger from your eye back to your ear. Built in one-half headset?
Or maybe its just a cover over the "Easy Button" and they'll unveil it at NAB. |

Bandwidth drain from everyone (and their dogs) linking to it. LOL! |

There's only one way to find out, and I'm sure whoever does will happily post here... Also, I know plenty of adapters were made for various lenses to fit on the XL cameras (I know I saw a PL adapter at one time, along with a horde of SLR still lens adapters), so I'm sure someone will make one to put the XL lenses on the new JVC if they prove good enough. According to the article that has since been pulled from WEVA, I believe they said there would be a 1/2" adapter available from JVC to use standard 1/2" lenses, which would certainly open up your lens possiblities (especially if some SD lenses are up to snuff). |
This is why I rent cameras now--I own the HD10 and use my friend's FX1 religiously, but I'm not buying anymore! :-)

If that was an earspeaker , wouldn't it be close enough to the mike to create an echo problem ? And also , it would kinda be jambox technology- kinda cheap idea considering the sofistication of the camera, although you guys are right as to it's placement- right next to the ear . I'd still vote for some kind of antennae- wireless backup to a notebook or monitor, maybe. Uh-oh, I see a repetition of the cellphone/ brain tumor controversy ! I still have to say - I've never seen one of those before !!
|
Kurth,
it would never play and record at the same time. *smile* - Shannon |
DVCPro cameras actually do play as it records.

So I suppose that now someone will design an Ear-Cuff (like the I-Cuff). Custom colors, a pointed version for the Vulcans, sanitary version for microphobes, etc. |

heath -->>> Headphones naturally. But it plays out of an Onboard Speaker as it records video???? that seems dumb. - ShannonRawls.com |
Yes, actually. At least the 1997 models did.

Our Hitachi 3000's with BetaSP backs have small speakersto the rear of the viewfinder. And yes, you can monitor sound while you record.
I'm pretty sure that's a speaker you see in the photo. Jeff Patnaude |
right...
Yeah,
I rent a Sony HDW700A when I need to shoot HD. I'm very tempted to handle or buy this JVC camera, as it could possibly compete with the super expensive HDCAM's, depending on image quality. |
