‘REALITY CHECK’ FOR JVC PROHD CAMERA
New Australian made film shot with JVC HD cameras

Sydney, 2 August 2005 – The first film in the world to be shot with the JVC GY-HD101E ProHD cameras is in production. The film entitled “Reality Check” starring Paul Mercurio (Strictly Ballroom) and Dieter Brummer (Home and Away) is a kind of ‘Survivor gone wrong’ movie directed by Geoff Cox, a director and DOP with over thirty years’ extensive experience in film and television including Rapid Fear 1, The Turner Affair, Beastmaster, Flipper and E-Street. Reality Check is being produced by Cox’s Tempo Pictures, an Australian independent production company, fast building a reputation for developing high quality commercial feature films, high-end commercials and corporate videos.

Shot entirely in HD and on location on the Gold Coast Cox made a concerted effort to buy two GY-HD101E ProHD cameras after being introduced to them by JVC’s Brisbane distributor ProVisual. HD specialist Cox commented “when Steve (Hibberd) from ProVisual told me about the GY-HD101E I knew I had to see one live in action so I booked a ticket to NAB that day and went for a demo. That’s where I met Noel (Oakes) and we put the camera through its paces. I was very impressed by not only what the camera could do but by its affordability and the service offered by both JVC and ProVisual. I realised very quickly that this is a true operator’s camera. JVC have nailed exactly what we want so I ordered two of them to shoot Reality Check with”

ProVisual Managing Director Steve Hibberd adds, “At this point the hard work started as the cameras had only just been launched at NAB and the demand for them was incredible so we pulled out all the stops with JVC to get the first two cameras available from the factory over to Geoff on the Gold Coast in order for him to meet his start date. Fortunately we did just that”

With over 22 years experience in the Broadcast & Professional Industry as well as qualifications as an electronics engineer, Hibberd heads up Provisual and is well qualified to comment on the GY-HD101E ProHD camera. He continued, “After being involved in the video industry for over 20 years I’m very excited about this camera as it offers us entry into the film production market with a whole new client list. This camera is the best thing that’s been produced in the last 15 years in terms of price and performance”

Cox adds, “My decision to buy the GY-HD101E came after researching all the available alternatives and discovering that this camera was the closest thing I’d seen in the world that could shoot 24P progressive and the closest thing to emulate film at a very affordable price.”

The GY-HD101E is a professionally featured, full resolution ProHD progressive camcorder with interchangeable lenses and utilises three newly developed 1/3-inch CCD image sensors, each one featuring an array of 1280x720 pixels (approximately 1 mega pixel), with micro lenses. Eliminating the need for image scaling, its native resolution matches that of most HDTV displays. In addition, the GY-HD101E provides real time playback in all major DTV formats, allowing easy conversion of recorded data to other formats without compromising the level of quality.
