Insurance fro HD100U

Hey, has anyoen gotten insurance for their camera and if so, what's the best option. I want to cover all my equipment, such as my HD100U, Mini35, sound equipment etc.

Any suggestions that will cover my shoots on locations and home etc.

Thanks

what a coincidence!

Guess what I'm actually getting my quote on Monday actually I will be signing the paper work so I can get my Powerbook, my HD100 and my Libec all insured. The lo-down is that my equipment is covered for damage and theft and my premium is only US$140 per year. Im pretty happy about that, piece of mind because I travel alot!.

Brian,
ask film people in LA. There are tons of insurance agencies there so you should have no problem. Up here in Canada I use Unionville Insurance Brokers in Markham Ontario. They specialize in insuring production and production equipment. My guess is that the camera package alone would be around some $800 per year.

I was hoping someone in LA would hgive me a name of someone. =)

Quotes on such insurance around these traps seem to come in around 5% of the insured value per year.

If you own the equipment for mere enjoyment your homeowners would likely cover it. You would need to specify your usage. If in fact you would use it commercially for any reason, coverage would be very limited or excluded. You are best to secure a commercial inland marine floater or better yet specific production insurance. Always keep records and take pictures and place them in a secure place, in fact two separate places. This will make settling your claim much easier. When you get the insurance be sure to read the policy thoroughly and know what limitations and exclusions are in the policy language.
