In what way? I don't get it.

There is no OIS on this camera, and unless you buy something like the Fuji TS-XXA (which I'm sure is north of $10k), there's not going to be any, either.

Broadcast-stye cameras just don't build in stabilization.

When I have used the camera in moving situations. On a Ski Do or in a moving vehicle, the drop outs are brutal. That's the kind of stabalization I'm talking about. Perhaps I mis-noted that as an optical issue, which it is not. There is however a problem with the head maintaing contact with the tape in bumpy scenarios. That is all I'm referring too.

Out of curiosity, what have you been using to buffer the shock? Is the camera hard mounted to something? or handheld?

Gotcha. I've had that problem with a Sony FX-1, but not the HD100.

hmm.

I do admit a 7" monitor may not be ideal for fine focus, but I'm currently using the Marhall 7" HD LCD and I can make OK focus adjustments with it.

I can't think of anything in it's price range and size that's better.

Focus assist works well on long focal length but shows everything in focus on wide angle—even when the subject is not in focus (so it is not just increased depth of field).

It would be nice if there were some distance info in the VF.
I can really understand how you could see the deep focus indication to represent extra DOF when you zoom back. And, you are correct that it is not reliable to use for focus.

However -- were you to zoom into the subject and use the FA -- you could then zoom back and trust you have focus. You also have a distance markings on the focus ring.
