TC component out
 

Hi, this may seem a silly question but what happens to the Timecode if you record out through the Component out of the JVC HD100 ?

I mean can you see it ? is it recorded to the Hard Drive the same way as the camera would be recording to tape or does the Hard drive unit take over the adding of timecode say like recording DV through DVrack to a computer ?

Nothing happens to it.

I don't think there's ANY camera that outputs it's code via VITC on the components.

As far as I know there is no VITC in the analog signal. Maybe David Newman can confirm this. The only other way to read the TC would be to have a simultaneous firewire connection simply for TC info.

That's what I thought, so the next questions really are how accurate the TC would be with the FW connection ? and wouldn't the FW out be at(in my case 25fps yet the component would be at 50fps)

How does the wafian drive record TC then ? (I presume it does) and if you used say the Rosendahl Hard drive unit then as it has a TC in is there a TC generator that would work ?

VITC timecode is a standardized part of a NTSC 525- or PAL 625-line video signal only. Component signal goes further than that into 720p or 1080i.
So TC is unfortunally not embedded into the component signal, which is a bummer indeed.
I'll check next week when I receive my camera back from JVC and the signal is set to output composite signal, if then VITC is coming out.
