Search for the Holy grail

Hi

I am in search of the holy grail and wondered if anyone has seen it?!

Basically, I want to be able to capture from the component out, compress it to dvcpro hd and lay it down on a hard drive that is attached to the camera!

Is this a pipe dream, or is it wild but just possible!?

Someone I have spoke to has said "just buy a panasonic instead", but I really love the hd100 and do not want to!

Thanks

Trevor

Well the Bonsaidrive is the closest thing I'd say so far, no idea if anyone has tried one connected to the JVC and no idea what the compression of the system looks like but I'd be intrested to see what the footage would be, they do make a DC powered version.

Hi Ian

Thanks for your reply. I got very excited then for a moment looking at the bonsai drive. But then I noticed that it only records sd and not hd!

But thanks. I suppose its still early days in the hd world for such a drive to exist. I'll keep looking!

Hi Trevor -

Unless I'm mistaken, the GY-HD100 is the only under $10k HD camera with full HD resolution image sensors. Recording its native 1280x720 output to DVCPRO HD would cut image quality to 960x720. You surely have good reasons for pursuing this idea, but it seems a high price. Hopefully the 100Mbps (DV) vs. 19 Mbps (MPEG) nonsense is not part of the consideration. At NAB, there was a demonstration of a waifan recording system which seemed interesting. Maybe others here are familliar with it.

Sorry I should have pointed out more that it shows the way I hope the bonsai drive and indeed a small portable DC wafian drive would go in the near future, it's exactly what is needed for this camera and at the price point of the Bonsai drive would be perfect :-)

The Holy Grail alot of us seek will arrive Trevor.
