You can use Sony batteries ( which can be bought cheaply on Eb_y ) Is this a good solution for battery power?

This is a cost effective battery, I have one and its the best deal out their. Works great and is sold by a good company out of Florida.

I am curious about this adapter as I already have several of the large Sony batteries.

Jack/Scott as a long term solution I'd advise against it. It's not a great deal cheaper than the AB or V-Lock mount and looks like even the big Sony's will only power the camera for an hour.
If you get the AB or V-Lock you also get a powertap for onboard equipment like lights, the DR-HD100 etc.
Personally I hate having to change batts too often so I'd always go for a broadcast solution. If you really want something cheap, Guy Barwood put together a decent homemade job early on in this forum - do a search, should find it.

I have to second the Batteries4Broadcast guys. They're great batteries, a good deal cheaper, and very reliable. I just shot a 12 hour wedding in NY this past weekend and just to see if I could, I used only two 90wh batts for the whole day w/o recharging. Due to turning the camera off when it wasn't needed they lasted all day and then some! Much better than always having to have one of the smaller batteries nearby in case you run out of juice.

Since I have quite a number of the large Sony batteries, the Sony adapter would be reasonable if it works. Changing the batteries is no problem for me and the extra weight of the giant batteries is not always advantageous in my particular situation. But I don't know if the Sony adapter works or if it would damage the camera.
