hd1oo hd converted for TV in FCP
 

Hello,
Does anybody have a solution to get smooth motion when converting hdv to sd to go onto beta sp. My conversions never come out smooth. All my projects that remain in hdv turn out great but when I convert to SD NTSC 8 bit in FCP and record a component master on beta sp it is choppy. The picture is great but annoying unsmooth. Sorry about all the acronyms.

You should be able to drop the 720p HDV sequence into a standard NTSC DV sequence and it will automatically letterbox the HDV timeline. After a render (do a short test first) the DV NTSC sequence should play fine.

Are you shooting in 24p? Sounds like an error in pulldown. How are you outputting to beta?

Are you editing in a 24p timeline? If so, try going through every setting of export and reverse field dominance as a first try.

Maybe this link will help you....

This link demonstrates how to convert HDV to a DVD, but the there is an extra step, converting HDV to SD.

The process is simple, but if working with 24P I recommend letting your output card (Kona/BM) add the pulldown when outputting to Beta SP.

So just make a new NTSC sequence that matches the frame rate you edited your 720P sequence in. 720P30 requires a normal NTSC sequence (29.97) and 720P24 requires a NTSC-24P sequence.

Drag the 720P sequence into the NTSC sequence. It will automatically nest and scale to letterbox.

Now just "edit to tape."

Rendering will be required, but it is no big deal.
You may want to throw a "Broadcast Safe" colour correct filter onto your nested sequence just to make sure nothing weird happens in the conversion from 709 to 601.
