When you only sell a handful of an item you have to make it expensive, and you can when it is a niche product such as that.

That doesn't make the F900's VF twice as expensive to make as the HD100 in any respect.

I've started using an older LCD screen for an HD monitor...it works quite well as an HD viewfinder if you don't mind the size. I bought a cable that has RGB connections at one end and VGA connections at the other. Voila....instant HD monitor.

No it doesn't. But the point is simple, at a price for a whole camera that is less than half the cost of an accessory for another camera the HD100 offers terrific value.

Even with the economies of scale delivered by the mass production of these cameras there will inevitably be compromises in their design and manufacture. In the HD100's case the VF is definitely a compromise when compared to a Sony. Having said that, the standard viewfinder on a F900 is pretty shocking!
