noise in the image?
 

hello guys as you may know im set on geting a JVC100u or 110 now i have been reading about "NOISE IN THE IMAGE.
what does this mean, what is it

it's like gain noise but with no gain set! there are other threads about this

I've only had a HD250 in my hands for a few days, but I did notice that you now have the option to turn the DNR off. Is it possible you are seeing noise when the DNR is off?

have you notice any audible noise (fan noise) coming from the back of the camera?

DNR is on - and yes no change?

Noise in the image of what? The LCD? The viewfinder? or the resulting image after capture?

If it's the LCD or viewfinder the problem is that the peaking pot is turned up too high.

If it's in the resulting video image after capture then let's have a look at the image because video noise is very rarely complained about with the ProHD series.

I haven't noticed any fan noise yet and I had the camera turned on all day Monday. I'll try again in a warmer environment.

I can hear drum and tape transport noise when it winds up to record. No worse than the HD100 though.

Tim, the noise I am referring to is a clearly audible fan-like noise coming from the rear of the camera. It doesn't make any difference what battery is used, the same noise is generated even without any battery while the camera is plugged into an external power source.

The noise is quieter than the loading and threading of the tape mechanism but loud enough to be picked up by a lapel microphone during an interview in a quiet room at a distance of some 2-3 meters (6-10"). It's certainly a significant difference to the HD100 series, which don't make any such sound, implying that they don't have the same cooling fan.

Noise, as in picture noise?
 

I've noticed it in my HD100 when played via component thru my HDTV (picture noise - not fan noise). Sort of like mosquito noise, swirling around, especially in the darker areas of a shot.

I thought the HD2xx series should have reduced this.

What are you monitoring the video with?

At the moment, I'm using the computer LCD (17"), so I don't know if its my camera or the HDTV. I don't have a dedicated monitor.
