lens vignetting
I have a clip here showing vignetting at the telephoto end of the lens, I was wondering if this is the same on other peoples HD100s?.
The bird is in focus but you can clearly see that it is out of focus all around the bird. It pretty much means I can't use the telephoto end to mimic shallow depth of field which is a right pain. The clip is around 40mb http://www.box.net/public/static/sm8mn0oxjz.m2v BTW i tried capturing HDV25p with the new 5.1.3 FCP update and i managed to capture an 11 min clip uninterrupted which i could never do before. It only made a new clip when i stopped recording and then started again, which i can live with. Andy. |
Yep. The stock lens vignettes on focal lengths longer than 45mm.

so do a lot of other lenses. basically they let it zoom a bit further than it should for better numbers. plenty of 1/2 and 2/3 glass that does the same. that said, just consider it the look of the lens and work with it rather than fight it. I really don't have much issue until you get to the last 10%

This lens is also pretty soft below f4, which makes going for shallow depth of field a little more interesting. For I/Vs you can never have enough subject to B/G distance.
Nice tit shot BTW! Liam. |

Anyway cheers for the replys, just wanted to make sure it wasn't a duff lens. Andy. |
