Teaser for "Pigment" a Swedish feature made with HD100 & an M2

Hi everyone
If you want you can check out the teaser for Pigment. It is a swedish movie made by the director of Sleepwalker (if some of you have seen it, his name is Johannes Pinter (Runeborg)). I was DP and did all the lighting and would be glad to get some feedback from you. The teaser is very early and it will probably change in term of look etc.

You can check it out at *link is down please use the one marked temporary*

If the teaser doesen't start to roll you can download it at the link featured under. Please note that the texts are in swedish but you can still check it out if you want.

I would really like to know what you think of it. If you´re intersted I can post more material using the setup mentioned above.

Feedback

Hi Teodor. I dl'd and watched the trailer. Definitely very professional and "filmic" looking. The camera looks great as usual. The darkness is especially handled well, and I think you really got the lighting and look right for this mood. Not being a horror fan, I won't comment on the content!

I think it looks outstanding. I would like to see more material, if it's available to be posted.

Hi Teodor,

I think it looks great. I particularly like the opening shot.

Have you shot the whole film or just the teaser? It would be great to see more.

I've noticed with these lens converters that they seem to lose a lot of detail in the blacks, is this something you found whilst shooting with the M2 or is that just the look you were after?

Cheers,

Liam.

The link is not working - I'm using a mac with safari and firefox.

Thanks guys for the nice replies. The movie is beeing edited and this is the first cut I've seen. Hopefully there will be a longer teaser finished. I will post it when it becomes avaliable.

To Liam:
About the blacks. This is just a temporary cc (probably done by the editor in magic bullet. It clearly crashes the blacks and kills of the highlights). The shadows and higlights are all there. I will help them retvieve them in the final version.
Since the adapter works as a weak contrast filter it actually helped me with the shadows which was really handy since the director wanted a film noir look to the visual language (not featured that much in the teaser I will post some stills from the movie). I have done movies without the adapter and I've not noticed that it looses more details in the shadows compared to those projects. But then again since I light my own stuff it can probably be the case that I compensate this with lighting :)

About the movie I have shot all of it and lit it. The movie is not finished since it is divided into four parts one for each season the teaser above is for autum. All four parts will the be cut into one feature.

You can check out some pictures from the production at
www.pigment.nu
you enter through the stain on the chest autumn is = höst. The site is in swedish but you can look at the pictures and the teaser.

Drew does the whole link not work or just the movieframe? The movieframe doesen't work on my worksstation either but you can download the teaser in .mov format from the link below. I will also try to encode a version that is better quality I will talk to the director about that.

I just tried to watch- all links are broken.

Liam Hall February 20th, 2007 02:43 PM

Teodor,

Thanks for the reply.

Don't get me wrong, I like the look. I just find it funny how when someone sticks one of these adapters on their camera the first thing they do is compress the blacks.

Looking forward to seeing more and to your CC, of course.

Cheers,

Liam.

Here´s a temporary solution I will talk to the director and se if I can get hold of a better quality version.

What lenses did you use? Framerate?

Teodor Miljevic February 20th, 2007 05:23 PM

Hi Miklos
I used 25p and canon fd lenses (24, 28, 35, 50, 85 and 200mm). I' hoping to test my new babies on the next shoot (20, 35-105macro, and 135f2). And also I would also want to give credit to Paulo Ciccone since I used his V3 reciepe.

Teodor Miljevic February 21st, 2007 01:37 PM

I will try to get a higher quality version up if someone is interested.
Does anyone know an easy place to host it?

Teodor Miljevic February 21st, 2007 05:09 PM
