A Review of the JVC ProHD Handbook

Being fairly new to HD and the HD110U camera, I found myself searching this website for tidbits of information on how to become more educated with both areas. Though DVInfoNet provides a lot of good information, it was necessary for me to find a source that covered not only HD, but the HDxxx camera.

I am hesitant to buy something unseen from the web, but did purchase Steve Mullen's book on-line and must say that it has been a excellent tutorial for me.

This book is not an easy read. You will not skate thru it in an evening and become the next Fellini (oops, showed my age there) Not because of the author abilities, but because it is quite detailed. For me, many areas required re-reading and study.

The book covers two major areas, logically presented. First, HD in detail with a capital "D". Not owning a pocket protector, much of the discussion in this area was way over my head. I did however glean an general understanding of the technical aspects of HD video.

The second general area, which I found most helpful to me at this time, were the chapters on the JVC HD series camera. In my opinion, the camera manual is lacks detail. In the book, the author goes into detail on the controls and operation of the camera....plus much more. There is a chapter titled "Shooting Guide" which was very helpful to me.

I would recommend the book to newbies and those more seasoned who wish to have a better understanding of HD. I suspect there are very few in the DV group who could not learn something from the book. The book is an excellent value!

PS there are 288 pages, I suggest you setup to print on both sides of the paper, or you end up with the big city phonebook.
