hm700 - Fujinon 16.5x, Canon 14x or .. ?
When I bought my HM700 I got "tricked" and JVC-Italy was giving it out with the Fujinon lensens.. but not the new 17.5x but the old 16.5x (the same than the ones on the GY200). Now they are selling the camera with the Canon 14x and my reseller has offered me a switch. I could get the new lenses at 1.300 euro + VAT or he can try to arrange some sort of switch with another customer and I could get the new Canon at 500-600 euro giving back the 16.5. Should I accept? What about the 17.5 ? Should I wait for an offer on those? What is the difference in this new Canon? Will I have less CA than my 16.5x? What about the wide angle I miss so much now?

Look my testshots, all with the new Canon or look this JVC HM700 with Canon KT14x4.4KRSJ - Preview MTB Race Schnaittach - North-Bavaria on Vimeo |
Thanks. I don't see any CA at all. Good.. But still.. Should I swap or buy both? IE is a 16.5 x still usefull having a stronger tele?
|
I think it will be usefull to have both, but 1300 Euro is really a cheap upgrade option.

Marcello - definitely trade-up. There is not good reason to keep the 16x, because that lens is weakest at telephoto anyway. This is where the lens completely falls apart.
The 14x is a better overall lens for most purposes. If you need tele range frequently, consider the 17x depending on how much more it will cost you (I'll be curious!). Otherwise, the other 2/3" lenses you were testing, or even a nikon adapter might be the best approach for clean tele shooting. |
Thanks Sean. The Canon 2/3 lenses seem quite ok with the adaptor. I didn't do a serious resolution test but I had no particular problems at least visually. I used them for the central camera in an indoor evento to shoot the main speaker on the podium.

As a matter of interest, does anyone use the Fujinon 13X3.5 with their HM700? I would be interested in your experiences.

I am considering a new 700. I have the JVC111 with the 13x lens which I would use on the new cam. Is there any reason you are asking? Do you see any issue? |
Hey Dennis
hope you are well, did you see how cheap the GHM700 bodies are at videoguys, half of my HD251. With your lens and 35mbps it'd be a killer camera for that price.
Even though, I must admit I'll be glad to stick with my 251, and add the XDR Nano through my SDI to retain the ability to keep a archive tape incase of hard drive failure etc. |
