Putting PAL tapes in NTSC camera

Hi all,

So if i mistakingly put a PAL tape in my GL2 , will it explode or something. Or i just won't be able to see anything

Thanks a lot for your answer

Tapes are tapes, tapes sold in PALSville will work.

Are you referring to blank PAL tapes or tapes encoded with PAL DV? Neither will hurt your camera.

I read somewhere that the tape runs through an NTSC cam at a different speed compared with PAL models.
That said you may get more running time out of a PAL tape.
Then again you may get less-not sure which standard is quicker through the cam.
Anyone know??

I know this for a fact:

NTSC = 30 frames per second
PAL = 25 frames per second

30 min. NTSC tape * 30 frames (NTSC) = 900 frames on the tape

900 frames / 25 frames pr sekund (PAL) = 36 min. on the tape

We get 6 more minutes if we use a 30 min. NTSC tape in Europe.

Ooohhh YEAH!!!

Do you mean with VHS tapes?

Martin Baun April 6th, 2004 03:25 PM

Sorry. I forgot to write what tapes I was talking about :)

My first hand experience is the BETA SP tape. I must confess that I haven't tried it with MiniDV or DV tapes... but shouldn't it be the same???

Maybe someone can help me with that one?
