what is the easiest way to download from the PC a video movie to vhs tape (help needed. Thanx Mike W)

1. if your camera supports analog through hook it up to your PC and export to your camera while you have analog out hooked up to a VCR

2. record to tape on your camera first and then play that back to VCR

Both of this will only work if you have a camera that supports
DV IN. Ofcourse you can also use a DV Deck or an analog <-> DV
converter etc.

Sometimes you might even use an analog out on a video card if
you really have no other option available. Quality will be limiting
with this option though. Then again tape ain't that great either.

Thanx Rob, I'm downloading DV mini tape from camcord to PC then editing it. Then I want to put it to VHS can this be done easily?

I think my original response gives you the options that are
available. It sounds like you guys are not understanding my
pointers? What is unclear?

Thanx again Rob!! We are using a Canon XM1 to video old 8mm movies straight off the emulsion. We then download to the PC. edit,then usually burn to DVD's, however, we need to put another lot to VHS . We wondered if there was a quick and easy way to do this without any dramatic loss in picture quality.We thankyou for your previous answer...........Gina(Mikes BETTER HALF)

I assume you are using Premiere for editing.

1. hook up your XM1 to the PC through firewire and set it to VCR mode

2. hook up a composite or s-video connection from the camera to your VCR and an audio connection from the camera to your VCR.

3. now do an export to tape from within premiere and make sure your VCR is rolling

That should get it done.

Otherwise you can do step 1 and then export to tape so it records
directly to a miniDV tape in your XM1. Then rewind that, hook up
the analog connections per step two and hit play on the XM1 and
record on your VCR.

The first should do it instantly from computer to your VCR, with
the second option you record it to miniDV tape on the XM1 first.
