mini dv player/recorder

I need to purchase a mini dv player/recorder with firewire conncetions. Any suggestions?

You could get a cheap camcorder with analog-digital passthrough.

2- What exactly are you looking for? Budget?

Ron Edwards October 3rd, 2004 07:16 PM

I will use unit to play recorded tape (GL-2) into my Avio for editing then I will use same unit to record finished project onto mini dv for storage. Budget....$600.

Do not want to use GL-2 because additional wear and tear.

At $600, you're mostly looking at buying a low end mini-dv camera. Most of the decks run +$800 up to thousands.

Looks like I might need to dig a little deeper....JVC makes the SR-VS30U unit, BH Photo price is $829. Anyone out there have this unit and do you recommend it?

Leon Ortiz-Gil October 3rd, 2004 09:09 PM

Yeah Ron, I have that JVC. It works for me when I want to Digitize. I had problems when I tried to print back to tape from FCP4. A friend is using it now but when I get it back I think I can solve the print to tape problem. It is not an authorized FCP product. And it really depends on what you intend to use it for.

We've had problems with that deck, both on playback and record.

Seems to generate "glitches".

Brian from Zotz confirms that is not a reliable option.

I have explained how I intend to use a dv player/recorder in previous post.

What is a "reliable option"?
