Betacam Standard to a digital format

Does anyone know how to convert tapes from a Betacam Standard machine into files for editing on Premiere ?
Standard is the forerunner of Betacam SP, which later evolved into Digi-Betacam.
Is there such a thing as a Analog/digital converter?
I have been told that I can run a RCA/BNC cable from my deck via a converter and USB to my PC?
I bought a Standard machine for $100 to convert my old masters into digital files.
Does such a thing exist and where can i buy it?

Take a look at capture devices from Matrox, AJA and Black Magic. I personally have the Matrox MXO2 which would do what you needed as well as acting as an interface for many modern standards such as HD SDI. A device like the AJA Ki Pro could be hired and used as a stand-alone recorder to convert the files to Prores.

Mike, What about the Ninja 2, I'm thinking of getting one anyway.
I'm just doing one-off home stuff, from years ago, when I used to shoot Beta - is there a cheap option?
Maybe I should just hire a converter for the day?

Most NLE's will expect to capture dv via firewire. I've used this device from a betacam playback: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/312315-REG/Grass_Valley_602005_ADVC_55_Analog_to_Digital.html

I bought an old DV-SVHC from JVC, on ebay - with faulty VHS mechanism. Works great as a converter from Composite or y/c 4 pin - worth checking before you buy something else.

And the Ninja 2 (which is awesome) is HDMI input only, not any composite connections.

I have transferred my old SD Beta SP/SX library using a NanoFlash unit. Pictures are transferred from a well maintained DNW-A75 SP/SX machine via SDI to keep the quality as high as is possible. This machine has the best time base correction for old and iffy tapes. The Nano can create .Mov or .MXF files. I use 50mbits as this is ideal for maximising the resolution of SD material. I also have a Digibeta J3 machine for transferring Digi material to the Nanoflash.

+1 for the reliability of the 75 series of decks, SP or SX.

A broadcast standard for a VERY good reason. And excellent dropout detection. Pricey though... A rental for all but the deepest of pockets... IF you can find one still...

Re: Betacam Standard to a digital format

I recently hired a Sony J30, that is able to read ANY Beta from standard to digital, output to SDI, HDMI, Composite, YC, and firewire. (no Component out) . I captured sound and picture from Firewire port with Adobe premiere as AVI, the J30 driven by the computer. All in 1 cable, new experience for me. About 12GB per hour. Very easy solution.
