Sony FDR X3000 Raw nighttime footage
 

Here is a test shot I did with available street light. It is straight from the camera so you can see what I got. Just two jump cuts, no edits. Shot at 4k XAVC S 30P .MP4 uploaded to Vimeo as is so compression is theirs.

Nice footage Steven.

I've noticed that the noise grain level on the X3000 is slightly higher than the X1000. Which setting on the camera did you make that makes the shadows look almost clean? Normally I use -0.2 exposure setting.

No adjustment all. And the camera surprised me. I am a manual mode shooter with all of my other cameras. That shot should have needed manual with the trains headlight coming at it but somehow it stayed wide open. Must have been the low angle that saved it. I only see it fluctuate once, I think.

Yes there is noise and grain but thats to be expected. It looks much better once I pulled the brightness DOWN and tweaked it just a little. But that would not do you guys any good so i wanted to show you what I got straight from the camera. It was literally under the train in the dark and pulled a usable shot out of it. I have other street shots from that night that look much better. It is good camera. The BOSS stabilization makes it a very good camera for what it is. And in my edit suite I can even here the stereo audio working as it should.

I am very happy I decided to break the mold and not get another GoPro.

steven, that's a cool test - looks good, thanks for posting.
I've been using the x3000 for a few recent multicam shoots, in addition to a Hero5 and pro SDI cameras, and it looks darned good, and is easy to control with the phone app. Decimator does a perfect and reliable job of converting to SDI (once you get the settings right).

Has anyone tried the HDR-AS50, with slightly smaller chip and less than half the price ($168)?
