D90 scrolling waves

Dear PAL countries users.

Please be aware that the camera is producing severe scrolling waves due to non-synced shutter when shooting under artificial light.

It makes it completely useless for any night scenery shots, pro lighting (or just fun home videos).

Here are two samples (until I will upload my own).

Nikon D90 non-synced shutter issues (and tissues) on Vimeo (look from second 30 on),

Hope to get 25p and 50Hz shutter in future updates to overcome this problem.

Thanks.

Johnnie

You will only get 50Hz shutter if the hardware supports it, which is not a given. For the video to be possible, the chip has to be made in a special mode where it scans a lower resolution. This mode may be only specified on this timing, or the clocks which drive the chip may not be built to produce the necessary timings.

See for example this document:
http://www.sony.co.jp/~semicon/engli...1/a6809671.pdf
at page 11. It is a much older chip, but that is a reference I could easily find, and more recent chips work in a similar manner.

Dude that low light looks great.... but that banding kills it...

Also saw it on my D90, should be the same with Canon 5DII...or?
Maybe a Firmware...I hope...

Though really small and nice 35mm package to bring when ever...
Interesting times!
