Nikon D7000: Effective Shake Reduction with VR Lenses?
 

I need to do some car-mounted D7000 shots, and I'm wondering if the VR in typical Nikon lenses is effective with video in the D7000? I really only have experience with VR on rather long lenses used for stills -- and before I buy something much shorter with VR, I'm curious whether it's worth it or not...

The above non-specific and not-very-useful question is what happens when you attempt to post while also doing your laundry, printing for an upcoming photo show, and generally not concentrating...

What I really meant to ask is does anyone have any experience with, for example, the Nikon 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G's VR in real-world conditions with the D7000 while doing videos involving quite a lot of small-scale bumps? How effective is the VR with that combination? And to forestall some of the obvious questions, no, depth-of-field isn't an issue with this application (beyond a certain point), and nor is absolute quality, etc. -- I really just want to get something usable from the D7000 (i.e. something a little more controlled than a GoPro).

I've just spent the past few days with a new Nikkor 16-85mm VR II DX lens attached to my D7000 which was in turn attached to my car, and while the results are not definitive, so far this lens's anti-shake VR works well (better by far than the VR in my old JVC HM100), and the image is good enough under most conditions (it's probably never going be much better without a very expensive stabilized mount...). I use the VR on the "active" setting, which Nikon recommends for this sort of thing, but it was accidentally on "normal" for a while and didn't seem to be any worse. I'd post sample clips if I had anything interesting; I may do that after trying again this weekend if the weather clears up.

Oh, and I still owe you a response on the N7000 / Merlin thread when I can get my Merlin back :-).
