Hints that Nikon may enter the Cinema Market

As a Nikon D800 user this would be excellent news!

Now we're talking. The d800 shoots such great stills it seems only natural the next thing would be to add higher rez video. Can't wait.

Took their time about it, gave Canon a good head start.

Cheers.

Well, if they stumble out the gate like they did with the D800, I guess it'll be a decade before I buy one. lol, that being said, yes it took them long enough.

Not seeing how this 1 inch sensor development has any relevance for full frame. This is for compact mirrorless point and shoot cameras. Cropped to 4k resolution it's even less sensor area, or downsampled to 4k from the full sensor area with uneven pixel multiples means moire/aliasing. These are the same issues as with any full frame sensor including the new Canon 1dc. You pick your poison, full frame with downsampling artifacts, or clean cropped images that don't use the the entire area of the sensor.

Is that a different link than originally posted Jeff?

If they are serious about going into video/cinema then I think they should take a look at the whole focus/zoom in the opposite direction thing with their lenses. Or at least have a way to reverse them if wanted.

As somebody with years of muscle memory built up going one direction it is too much to ask to change when I pick up a Nikon camera/lens. I know I am not special but this stops me from ever buying their products. I would have switched to the D800 but stayed with the Canon ecosystem & 5DMKIII for this reason.

Poor Nikon, they just seem sooooo very far behind. True they would have to come out with a complete line of Cine Only lenes ( that focused in the right direction ) AND a completely new camera type ( much like what Canon has already done with the C300/500 frame ) At a time when the market is starting to be saturated with cine primes and low cost camera bodies. Wonder if they will exit the pro cine market altogether?

Maybe Nikon is fine just having DLSR's with video enabled functions. I own a Canon C100 and a Nikon D800. Both are great cameras for my projects, however I get more compliments about my D800 footage than the C100. Really like how Nikon handled the conversion of there 36 megapixel sensor to a HD resolution. Very sharp and the dynamic range is awesome. The C100 footage is sharp as well but the D800 footage seems to pop.

Last month I considered getting out of Nikon since I bought the Canon C100. Just didn't want to be in two different systems but I just can't let the D800 go. Nikon has a style and look that I haven't achieved with any camera. I shoot neutral profiles, buy great glass for both. The D800 just seems to be my go to camera.

A Nikon cinema camera for Film School Grads using F mount lenses with 4.2.2 and 4.4.4 options would be great. Sort of like what everyone was hoping with BlackMagic cameras and wasn't. KNOBS SWITCHES! NO SUB MENUS! :)

I would love to see a Nikon video camera, something along the lines of a C100/C300. I think it would be good for them. Among other things it would expand or preserve the base of Nikon lens users. At the moment, since many people need Canon lenses for their Canon video camera, they don't bother considering a Nikon dslr; they buy a Canon instead.
