When capturing should you hear audio from cameras onboard speaker?

I was capturing footage with my DVX100 tonight and noticed an echo. Reason being audio is heard in both the computer (because I have audio pass-thru set in Premiere) and thru the camera. Is this normal? I never noticed audio from the camera during capture before.

I have a cheapo Sony Digital8 that I am using right now, and if I have my LCD screen out when I am capturing, I hear audio coming from the camera.

My VX2000 does the same thing.

This is normal.. when you're capturing you're basically just playing it on the camera like you would if you were watching what you shot normally, so there will be sound. This won't affect your capture file though. If this bothers you, you can always turn your camera volume down -- this won't affect the audio capture.

It plays sound from the camera even with the lcd closed- is that normal?

Edward Troxel May 26th, 2003 09:24 PM

I just turn the volume down. Many capture programs can be told to capture but not play the audio during capture.

Curious- what capture program(s) do you use?

Edward Troxel May 27th, 2003 01:46 PM

Scenalyzer has an option to mute the sound on capture so it won't play through your speakers. I use both Scenalyzer and Vegas Capture.

same here. I have a canon xm2. I can turn down the volume on the canon. In vegas you have an option whether you want to here the capture sound (through the PC sound card) or not.
Either way this has no effect on the capture.

Yes, it's normal. To mute the volume on your camera just turn down the volume (it's usually a dial or up/down buttons.)
