HD clip in PremierePro 7.0?
 

I bought a 24 FPS HD clip off iStockVideo, thinking I could convert it for use in Adobe Premiere Pro 7.0 as NTSC. How wrong I was! The clip imports OK, but plays at 3 FPS. I was able to resize and render it, but the jerky effect is not that good looking. Is there a way to convert HD clips for use in NTSC proejcts?

Take a look at VirtualDub - it works well for re-encoding AVI files.

I DL'd VirtualDub, but it does not appear to open or work with MOV files.

Anything else I can consider? I am trying to use an HD MOV file in Adobe PremierePro 7.0. Convert from 24 to 29.97 FPS.

VDub does not work with QT files.

MPEG Streamclip (free) will convert it to many formats that Premiere will work with. You will also have to install QuickTime or QT Alternative. As far as converting the frame rate... your best results will not be with Premiere. Canopus Procoder will do a much better job - free evaluation version available for download.

After Effects will do a good job of converting framerates. Drag the HD MOV to an NTSC timeline. Turn on high quality frame blending, and render it to 29.97.

Thank you very much, I have a friend who uses Canopus, and I was able to convert it simply using Procoder. It worked flawlessly, and looks great. I really like the cropping feature, where you can select which part of the 16x9 frame you want to crop to for the 4x3 aspect ratio.

I'm glad I was able to help. Out of the moderately priced software options I find that Procoder does the best job when it comes to both resizing and converting frame rate - I am doing NTSC to PAL conversions on a regular basis.
