Some other words for lossless codecs
I have been playing around with a variety of lossless codecs (open source)
and wanted to share some links and my findings on what has given me the best results in order of file size output. 1. Lagarith Lossless Video Codec http://lags.leetcode.net/codec.html 2. Huffyuv v2.1.1 Some problems with newer version above 2.11 http://neuron2.net/www.math.berkeley...g/huffyuv.html 3. microcosm Not free but a very good price http://www.digitalanarchy.com/micro/micro_main.html 4. MSU Lossless Video Codec Can be very slow but good results http://compression.ru/video/ls-codec/index_en.html 5. YUVsoft's Lossless Video Codec can take a really long time and sometimes with bad results... http://www.yuvsoft.com/download/loss...dec/index.html For the money.... $0.00 Lagarith is the winner ;) |
I use HUFFYUV extensively on several computers, never had an issue.
How does Lagarith compare to HUFFYUV as far as file size? And in what way is it superior? Thanks, |
For me the Lagarith codec has produced smaller file sizes usually about 5-10 percent smaller and 100% lossless

You didn't test the Bitjazz Sheervideo codec. This codec is super fast and produces files only slightly larger then Microcosm. It isn't free but it is also a lot cheaper then Cineform.
There are a few people on here that already use Sheervideo on Apple systems with awesome results for HD capture. The only down side is that FCP doesn't like to use RT effects with 3rd party codecs. The Sheervideo AVI version is in beta but the quicktime version works on the PC. |
