What type of new editing computer?

At this point my head is hurting! I use Premiere Pro 2.0 on a P4 2G RAM XP system. Rendering is really slow. I want to upgrade the system. I want to upgrade to Premeire CS3.

What type of system is best? Vista 32-bit or 64-bit?

I don't have a lot of monetary resources. I was looking at an HP at Best Buy with Intel Core Quad Q6700 w/Vista 64-bit for around $1200.

I'm completely lost. Guidance required.

You may want to move this post to the Premiere forum given the specifics of your setup.

Only thing I'm aware of for Vista is that RAM should not be stinted on. 4 gig for sure (in my opinion). Absolute minimum 2 gig.

ps ~ fwiw, when I flip to Vista, it'll be Vista Ultimate64, since I already have a 32bit OS with XP. I've read a few people here already using Vista64 so there should be recent info kicking around regarding that.

Brian,

Please have a look here:

I think you should go for the Q9450 - it has SSE4 and 12mb of internal cache - both important factors when rendering.

I wouldn't go for Vista, instead of XP.
From what I've heard Vista hogs up much more recources then XP.
And to be honest, my own experience with the usability of Vista was a nightmare, I prefer XP by a long shot.
