I use Cinemacraft for high end encodind jobs only becuse of it's capability to do 3 -4 or more passes on mpeg 2 encoding in vbr mode.

After encoding you can acess the encoded file with a graph showing encoding "problems" in problem areas for re encoding of that spesific section.

Its control over enoding mpeg 2 clips is unbeatable taking speed vs quality and extended control in consideration.

CONS - OUTPUT MPEG 1 & 2 ONLY.

I use tmpg express 4.0 for 90 % of my studio's average workflow.
It accomodates literally any format on input and output - HDV included.

Overall winner - TMPG EXPRESS 4.0 - Swiss Knife for encoding.
