I've produced over a dozen DVDs of original video footage with Pinnacle Studio8. I've had trouble with every revision before 8.5.21, including all betas after that revision. My DVDs are an intro/startup video and a menu indexing about 20 scenes, following a credits video. Although S8 is buggy with titles and transitions, I still use it because it actually finishes a DVD.

However, I've been using Vegas Video 4 to edit some of the video. I did notice some sync issues when reassembling processing audio with its video. I plan to move to Vegas4 + DVD soon.

On another note, there seems to be some turmoil in the DVD software market. Sonic Foundry had financial troubles and was aquired by Sony. Sonic's financial instability and questionable future was the main reason I didn't move to Vegas Video, although I LOVE using SoundForge. Pinnacle aquired Dazzle,
a competing Video Editor / DVD creation company.

Download the Vegas demo at www.sonicfoundry.com and try it out. You should also download demos of other software before deciding. Also, visit Vegas and Pinnacle forums and see what the users are talking about. Is it problems running or how to do things?

Download a few NLEs and try them. For example, I tried Vegas and just couldn't get used to the interface. But you might take to it like a duck to water.

Bear in mind that Pinnacle seem to be concentrating on their own NLE, Edition. They will not support versions of Adobe Premiere beyond 6.5.

I'm getting more and more into Vegas4, but I have not tried assembling a DVD.
I plan to give that a shot over the next few weeks.

If you want easy, Studio8 is your program. Its storyboard editor and
one step render/DVD burn are sooooo, soooo, did I say sooooo, convenient.
I just let the thing run overnight and wake up to an ejected DVD-RW everytime. Be sure to get revision 8.5.21 .
