What is a good all around Editing software for PC.
 

Hi All,

I'm new to DV and editing. For all the veterns out there what would be a good editor.

These are my criterias:
1) I would like to do event video. ie. wedding, play, dances, etc..
2) Cost is not a factor (well within reason).
3) Please don't suggest movie maker. I would like something a little more advanced.
4) This is my thought on me making videos. There are a lot of artists out there that make KILLER event videos. I don't want to be one of them because, basically, I lack the talent. I would like to create decent videos or DVDs that people can afford cheaply.
5) I recently saw a demostration of Pinnacle, and I thought that
was a pretty good all in one software. Is there anything along those lines of editors.

Any help would be great.

Sonic Foundry's Vegas, Adobe's Premiere bundle. I forget the one that Chris Hurd seems to like. I think that one is much more stable product.

Pinnacle Edition 5 is getting rave reviews, and is *pretty much* real time (depending on your system specs) And its around $700. It has DVD authoring built in, and it even lets you make your own custom menus, easy.....although...premiere pro is just around the corner.....

I suggest you download demos of each and try them yourself. Also, look in the forums to see what kinds of questions are asked - is it how to do things or how to get it to work?

However, if I get a vote, I vote for Vegas. Vegas is very stable with high-end features and is easy to use.

try Pinacle Studio 8
 

Pinnacle studio 8 is a much more easy dv program to use and is user friendly. this program i would recomend to first time users the the rather difficault use of a high end editor. you can also use Windows movie maker beta 2 it comes with windows xp pro and is user friendly as well. now as for high end Editors my recmondation is Avid Express Dv Pro 3.5 its the standard in Tv productions as well as movie making. then theres Finacut pro 4 for the mac user but i hear its a good editor, depending on the system your using it on, i say if do use a mac make shure its a G4 or 5 with lots of memery.

If you use a IBM system i would say get a high end video card like 3dlabs oxgen card that cost about $1,500.00 if your going to use it for professional use if not a $169.00 128 meg video card will do and make shure you at least 512 megs of memory in you system. also get your self a good sound card, you might want to be able to hear it well. As far as hard drives are considered i would make shure i had atleast a good 150 gig hard drive 72rpm a with 8 meg buffer. My choice would be sci all the way. well there you have it and its by idea of editing.

If your going to film a movie and edit as well i would do some research on what the standard is and talk to people in the field of filming. some of the best ways would to call up production companies and as them what they use. some times its just better to go to a college or art instatute and ask for students to do the editing and put the college and students name in the credits. just make shure you tell them how you wnat the edit process to be.
