I use Screenblast Movie Studio 3.0 (upgraded from Video Factory 2.0c) and it also does scene detection. I think this is a great feature and I'm surprised that software like Premiere can't do it.

Myself, I was just wondering if there was any noticeable differences in quality between different capture software.

The program I use that does the above automatically is Ulead's VideoStudio 7. I just connect my DV camara to the PC via Firewire, open VideoStudio 7 and hit capture. It puts all the video onto the PC and splits it automatically into video scenes. It detects your start and stop points of your video.
After that you can edit as you like, put titles,special effects, audio and then you can render it to VCD, SVCD or DVD or put the edited version as an AVI miniDV file video back to your camera.

Pinnacle Studio8 does the same thing, along with a single step render to MPEG2, compile disk, burn DVD. I like its simple storyboard editor, although I occasionally use VegasVideo for audio cleanup and video processing.
