laptop drive paritions..External drive..

Hi all,

Setting up my new laptop for DV editing..And am wondering first if I should partition my 60 gig drive into a second partition for the video clips?? Any reason to do so?? And I am looking to buy a Firewire/USB2 external drive , I would like something compact(for travel) any recomendations??

Thanks..

I recommend that you don't partition. It's easier for file management if you don't partition since it's a bit harder to run out of space.

External drive:
Get firewire- USB will just give you headaches. Look for a drive with the oxford 911 chipset. IBM and WD drives are good to put inside the firewire enclosure. I'm not sure about compactness. Granite Digital and OWC sell enclosures- you might want to look at their products.
