direct DV capture software

Hi,

Is there a software which can record DV directly from firewire, preferably record audio from another digital source simultaneously? I do not want to use an nle program for this purpose, but a much simpler software just for capturing.

thanks in advance

Why? And then what do want to do with it? Direct burn to DVD? . . .

Grazie

my idea is to capture some interior shots direct to pc instead of transferring from dv tapes to the computer later to save tme. i will still be recording on tapes as a backup.

Take a look at Scenalyzer Live (http://www.scenalyzer.com). You'll need to run the audio to the camera or deck as it captures audio over firewire.

We use Scenalyzer to capture a weekly multi-camera shoot. The camera run to a video mixer whose output is sent to a DV Deck which converts the signal to firewire to feed the computer. At the end of the shoot, the video is in the computer ready for final editing.

However, any NLE software should be able to capture this way as well.

Vegas comes with a standalone capture utility. Microsoft also has
its own VidCap and AmCap little utilities. Scenalyzer is another
one and there are more like AVI_IO or VirtualDub and probably
a lot more. Recording from another audio input is another thing
that I don't think I've seen anywhere... yet.

thanks friends, i am looking at the products mentioned, though avi format is not sufficient, something like quicktime dv or even raw dv is ok.

I think Scenalyzer can capture to RAW DV. Keep in mind that
DV-AVI is only a WRAPPER around RAW DV. There are tools that
can convert (actually extract) DV-AVI to RAW DV.

on this topic, do any capture/transfer utilities, allow logging in say a spread sheet kind of manner?

I have seen on some pro shoots something called a cine-log, i am wondering if software like that is available.

Interesting... I had the same thought recently as well. That would
be a cool thing to have. I was thinking of programming such a
thing myself sometime, but I simply don't have the time with my
3 jobs....
