looking for an external firewire drive

I'm hoping someone can recommend an external firewire drive for use with Avid Xpress DV on a PC, at least 100G. It is to be used as the primary media drive for a colleague's documentary project.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Stu

I have a Lacie d2 120GB and am very happy with it. I paid about $200 almost two months ago. Recenlty Lacie introduced its new Porche FW drives so you might be able to get a d2 for less.

I have a Maxtor 250 GB and its great except that once I got it close to full, it had a tendency to crash my entire computer. Someone told me it has to do with enormous partitions in windows xp and that I should partition it to avoid that problem. So if you get a huge drive just be aware of that potential difficulty.

I had a Lacie external drive, which I loved until it crashed for seemingly no reason. I asked someone else I know who has used them, and she said their Lacie drives crashed so many times that they stopped using them. She gave me some recovery software, and after a great deal of trials and tribulations I recovered some of the data on the drive. She said they had lost a great deal of irreplacable data.

She said they now use Maxtors and have had no problems.

Christen, what recovery software did you use? Also, was the Lacie that crashed a d2? How many GB?
