Changing NLE from Pinnacle Studio

I am considering changing from Pinnacle Ultimate 11 to a different NLE (still deciding, considering Vegas or Elements 7). With all the footage I have captured in Pinnacle, how easy is it to access that from another editing platform? I hope I don't need to recapture!!!

Apologies for the newbie question, but I sincerely appreciate your expertise and suggestions.

It depends on what you're talking about.... HDV?

Pinnacle captures HDV as M2V/WAV.

Vegas will not import m2v

No, I'm still on plain old SD so far, with my trusty GL2.

I guess the essence is the capture proprietary to each NLE. in this particular case Pinnacle Studio, but also in general. I don't want to have to recapture footage if possible, and am not a techhie at heart anyway.

From memory, the Matrox X.100 and X.2 cards / systems are able to ingest DV footage from a Pinnacle system. This would save you from having to re-capture your footage files all over again.
