Any difference upgrading of WinXP Home to WinXP Pro?
will I notice any performance or reliability/security increase upgrading from the two? Currently, I have WinXP Home with SP1. What are the pros/cons of upgrading?

You get far more windows administrative tools with pro, which might be handy if you run into problems.
With regards to speed they both should be the same. You probably won't notice any difference between them in the end. Ed |
The home edition is as stable and as reliable than the pro version. The home edition is more than enough for editing purpose.
The two main added features to the pro edition in my opinion is the ability to connect to a domain (large network with directory service) and the support of Dual CPU. if you don't need any of these features, you should stay with the home version and save your money for other thing. You can look a this page from microsoft's web site if you are still unsure of which version is the best for you. |
If you're doing any networking, you'll be a lot happier with XP Pro. My laptop came with Home, and was erratic connecting to my office and home LANs. With XP Pro, everything is fast and reliable.

Hey, I have a question. When you upgraded your laptop, did it just work? Or did you have driver issues? I'm in the same boat (laptop has Homely Edition) but am worried I'll hose my machine if I try to upgrade... |
I chose Win XP Pro mainly because of the greater Multi Language abilities and options.
I'm in Japan so I wanted English based OS which can integrate fully on Japanese hardware and use also Japanese written software. |

Take a look at Microsoft's (other) comparison chart: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p.../choosing2.asp
Plenty of good reasons to go with Pro, but only you can decide if they're meaningful to you. |
