This is not a positive to advanced editors. In fact, it's a huge liability.

William,

It's been my experience (and others) that AVCHD is not an acceptable editing format even on powerful computers. It may play back fine but once you try and manipulate the footage on the timeline it responds too slow to be edited. I convert everything to cineform before editing. I'm using Vegas 9 (64bit) on a 2.4 ghz quad core with 8 gigs of ram.

Regards, Marc

I have noticed the lag time when I am using Pinnacle 12 and my computer is pretty much up to date; quad core, 2.4 GHZ Q6600 processor with 4 GB RAM. Please tell me more about cineform; how much room does it need on my computer, how user friendly is it, what affect it has on picture quality.

Otherwise I will just have to wait for a better (inexpensive) editing program to be developed.

Thanks.
Mike

All your Cineform questions are answered in the Cineform forum, espeically in the stickies, but it doesn't work with Pinnacle. But the short answers to your questions are: Anywhere from not much to a huge amount; very; none.

Thanks Adam. Bummer that it does not work with Pinnacle.

Before upgrading my computer I used Premiere CS4 and it worked good for avchd on a dual core 3.0 once Premiere was updated to 4.1
Also used Cyberlink PowerDirector which works well natively on dualcore machines and up. Not as nice of interface as Pinnacle but better than most other entry level programs.
Now, since upgrading to an 8 core 2.93 nehalem Mac, everything screams.
