For film audio what should I use minidisk or portable dat

I would like to get the opinion of those who have used either of these products. Should I use a portable dat or minidisk for separate sound in my film and documentary projects. If it is the minidisk, then which is the brand and model of choice for the dv community. Keep in mind that I would like to keep the price to around $400. Also is there a way of getting time code from either of these options at a reasonable price (even if separately done).

Thanks

I would go mini disk for the cheapest. To get timecode you are going to want to use DAT, but I think that will be out of your price range. Just buy or make a clapper (slate board) and sink the audio from the minidisk in post.
