Formatting HDs for DV & Cluster Size?
 

Hello,

Just wondering if there is an advantage in selecting specific cluster sizes when formatting a HD for DV editing.

I know 64k cluster sizes are ideal for audio editing but what about video??

Well in theory larger block sizes should work well with video since
those files are very large as well. Whether the speed difference
is that much to bother is something I doubt with today's harddisks.

But a test could reveal whether it is worthwile.

Keep in mind that some harddisk tools have trouble with large
cluster sizes (like some defragmentation / partition tools for
example). I assume the default Windows tools should work
without any problems.

Personally I just let the NTFS format pick the cluster size it wants
for a given partition size.
