Matrox upgrade
 

Well I finally ordered a RTX100 to replace my RT2500. I just want to know if anyone had any experiance to share with me on this. I was thinking maybe I should just format my C: patition and reinstall WinXP fresh. But if thats not really important that is a step that I can surely live without. Currently I have no problems with my editing PC and the RT2500.(after 3 configs and a year of troubleshooting) All input is welcome

Well, a format would be recommended for best performance (and also compatibility if the comp doesn't like the RT2500-to-RTX100 switcheroo). But it isn't necessary.

I haven't had any experience with an RTX100 myself, but I do listen ;). From what I hear, the RTX100 is great, just not with the Panasonic DVX100. It also doesn't perform as well when you put too many effects into your timeline (complex stuff, I mean, not wipes and simple stuff like that), but that is something to be expected of all hardware devices, they all have their limits.

I'm a little surprised that you would plunk down for a Matrox RTX100 when they are releasing an HD version in the fall of this year ^_^;;;. Did you know?

I switched from the RT2500 to RT.X100/PPro several months ago and have been very pleased with the upgrade. If you haven't already done so, you need to visit http://forum.matrox.com/cgi-bin/rtx100/ultimatebb.cgi and the Matrox site to make sure your system is compatible with the hardware. Specific questions relative to the RT.X100 can probably best be answered there since I don't think there are a lot of Matrox users here.

I think I will do a fresh instal just to make sure.

I did know about the Matrox HD solution but from what I am told it is a replacement for the DigiSuite line and not the RTX line.

Also I currently don't have any HD equipment so its not really all of that important to me

Since you'll be doing a fresh install, why not do two?

Having your PC in dual boot configuration can help you when things don't go as expected. Has been a life saver for me a couple of times.

Do you mean have 2 seperate installs setup for use with the RTX100? Or do you mean having a single install for the RTX and a install for everything else.....I ask becasue the PC that has the RTX is dedicated only for editing. It doesn't even connect directly to the internet. However it does connect to a server which performs all maintaince tasks off system

I mean having two separate installs setup for use with the RT-X100. That way, if one goes bad, you can continue your work on the other.
