Audio on left channel only. Question???

I just got done shooting an instructional video, my question is this... all my audio "instructor’s voice" was recorded through the left channel on my XL1s, when I go to edit this, I will hear his voice on the left speaker only, in the past I would just duplicate audio left to right "in premier" so his voice would sound even... Is this the proper way of doing things, or what is the proper way to work with this...

Should be able to pan the audio to the center. It's normal.

Duplicating the left channel is fine. This is the correct way to do this.

I get that on my VX2100 when using my Senheiser boom mic. Is that normal? I can hear it in both speakers when using headphones, but upon output I only get it in the left channel.

is there a way to make it record in both left and right so I don't have to go through each clip and duplicate the channel?

Thanks!
Chris
