Raid question

OK! I currently have an asus p4B533-E mobo, w a p4 2.4. I am using a wd carver se 80gb hd. The mobo has built in raid and I want to add two more hd's in a raid 3 or 5 config. Now! How do you set up a raid system? Do I have to wipe out my current hd and reinstall everything on the three drive set-up, or do I just add the drives and it will do it internaly. Help!

Yes, setting up any RAID will destroy the contents on all drives used. So you will have to reinstall your OS, and all apps.

Every RAID controller manufacturer does things differently. You will need to read the detailed documentation for your RAID controller to learn how to do this. READ CAREFULLY. This is not one of those installs where you can just skim the docs and install.

Note that most likely all hard drives used in the RAID must be identical. Even if your controller will allow slightly different HDs, you are best off with them being identical in size, speed, etc. IOW, use the same part number.

For more info on RAID, just do a google search.
