Why so many?????

I have noticed a lot of times when people mention the software that they use to edit and finish thier projects it is usually more that one program like Adobe then Photoshop and then some type of DVD authoring program. My question is, isn't there one complete sofware editing that can do all this? When I finally choose a DVcam and then the software to edit and copy to DVD what am I going to need. Is there one program to do it all.
thanks.

Adobe bundles software "Suites" including everything you need for each part of digital work.

The reason why you do each part of production in different programs working together is simple, Could you imagine the user interface of Photoshop, illustrator, premier, after effects, and encore all in one window! :S

Each piece of software is specialized to do its one task perfectly, not every task decently at best.

Every NLE has SOME capabilities in areas beyond editing. But the best way to achieve a high quality end product is to use task specific programs for specific tasks. The best place to manipulate a still image, is in Photoshop. Special effects and compositing can be accomplished in all of the NLE's, but After Effects, Boris and other special effects program, have broader abilities. The same goes for titling. DVD authoring... the same.

The interface on some of these programs, can open "within" a specific application. Boris, for example, opens within your avid timeline, allows you to do the work, and close it with the work on your timeline.

High end features work this way too.

LE6 Can Do It All

Steve,

Pinnacle Liquid Edition 6 provides a complete turn-key solution from capture to DVD burning.

For more info see LE6 Features and Specifications.

As has been mentioned, many editors prefer to use separate programs to obtain the highest quality and optimize the process. One great thing about LE6 is that you can start out with only LE6 to do everything, and then add additional programs as you see the need.

A great example is using Nero for DVD burning. Many, many people like using Nero, regardless of which NLE they use, because it can provide higher degree of compatibility with DVD players and will burn faster with a larger number of DVD media.
