Tracking motion.

I am in need of help with achieving a certain effect.

I am using After Effects 6.5 and I have a charachter green screened as if he is hanging off of a cliff and the camera is above him. The camera moves a bit so when the camera moves and the backdrop under him doesn't, this gives off a fake look.

Is there a tutorial on motion tracking that backdrop to stick to a certain point of the greenscreened cliff footage so that when the greenscreen footage moves the backdrop moves with it?

Im in a hurry and need to get this done as quickly as possible.

Thanks!

Did you try a google search, like this one?

Yeah, I went to just about all of those links already. Most of those tutorials deal with placing video on top of video and then tracking it or tracking a small animation on a moving car. It's a bit different when compositing (Or it seems so) and tracking a backdrop.

This is the first project I have had to motion track so as a beginner I was hoping someone could dumb down a tutorial for me.

Thanks for your time Rob!

I hope someone can help you out, unfortunately I don't have any tracking
(or AE for that matter) experience my self.

Good luck!

I have several tracking tutorials on my website that my help you. Basically, I would track the hand or portion of the foreground element (whichever doesn't move), then apply that to your background plate.

Thanks for the link to your site Stephen!

I messed around and I got it to work almost flawlessly!

The only mistake I made was that the background is centered on the first tracking point. So it leaves half of the background black where the backdrop should be.

It could be because I need to lock the background with both tracking points and I only have it locked by one.

I will test it out.

Thanks again Stephen!! Great tutorial!
